Hiking
The East Coast Trail, is a 540 kilometre coastal hiking experience. Beginning in St Johns at Fort Amherst, you can follow it to the eastern tip of North America. The trail provides a special blend of wilderness adventure, natural beauty, history and culture as you follow it along towering cliffs and headlands, past sea stacks, and deep inlets. Along the way you’ll encounter abandoned settlements, lighthouses, ecological reserves, seabird colonies, whales, icebergs, the world's southern most caribou herd, historic sites, a 50-metre suspension ridge, two active archaeological dig sites, and a wave driven geyser called The Spout.
The Grand Concourse is an integrated walkway system for the cities of St. John’s and Mount Pearl and the Town of Paradise. Its 120 kilometers of walkways link every major park, river, pond, and green space in the three municipalities. And at strategic points throughout all these areas are rest areas, playgrounds, storyboards and other features to make the walks as enjoyable as possible.
