Central and South America and Asia. These companies employ
more than 1,000 people and generate annual revenues of $250
million.  These organizations have advanced technical capabilities in
research and development and manufacturing for:

  • Engineering and product development
  • Ice management
  • Marine communications
  • Marine geomatics
  • Remote sensing

Technology Cluster
The Northeast Avalon region has one of the most sophisticated and comprehensive concentrations of ocean technology organizations anywhere in Canada. For the last several decades, federal and provincial governments have targeted the area for investment in research and development and infrastructure. Academic and technical expertise has expanded quickly. Much of this capability is located in just a few city blocks in St. John’s, forming a unique ocean technology cluster. This active and supportive environment has encouraged successful academic and business interaction that carried the region to a new level of global competitiveness in this sector.
