Mount Pearl
Mount Pearl is the second largest city in Newfoundland.
The city is located adjacent to our province's capital - St. John's.
The name Mount Pearl dates back to the nineteenth century
with the arrival of Commander James Pearl, in 1829. The city
was first named Mount Cochrane in honor of then-governor,
Sir Thomas Cochrane. Following the Governor's departure in 1834,
Commander Pearl renamed the site after himself. Since that time,
the location has been referred to as Mount Pearl. On July 21, 1988, the Town of Mount Pearl became the third community in Newfoundland to be granted City status. Mount Pearl has everything you need to enjoy the comforts of urban living amidst an unaffected environment. The City's natural surroundings, combined with its industrial core, provide a terrific place to live, work, and operate a business. (Source:www.nfcap.nf.ca)
