Newfoundland and Labrador is experiencing a wave of prosperity,
due in part to major expansion in the oil and gas and mining
sector. With our strategic location, historic resource-rich work
force, and low costs of business operation, augmented by a
competitive tax regime and a suite of business incentives, the
Northeast Avalon is at the head of the line when compared
against other provinces and countries.
A number of impartial and external sources support our claims. In 2005, Canadian Business magazine ranked St. John's as the number one cost effective city for business in Canada.
Newfoundland and Labrador also led the nation in productivity growth over the 1997-2007 period. The study by the Centre for the Study of Living Standards, revealed that Newfoundland and Labrador experienced the most rapid growth in all three areas assessed - labour productivity, capital productivity and multi-factor productivity.
